1001 Hopes – Migration Stories

Human stories supporting integration and social cohesion

1001 Hopes – Migration Stories is a short documentary series focusing on the lived experiences of people who have migrated to the United Kingdom and across Europe, with a particular emphasis on London as a global city of arrival.

Rather than treating migration as a statistic or a political headline, this project approaches it as a human process shaped by work, contribution, adaptation and belonging.

Each film, running between 3 and 10 minutes, presents an observational portrait of individuals who have rebuilt their lives in the UK — exploring their journeys, daily realities, participation in working life, and relationships with local communities.

Aligned with the UK’s Migration and Integration Objectives

This series is consciously developed in line with key priorities within the United Kingdom’s migration and integration framework, including:

  • Strengthening social cohesion and community integration

  • Highlighting migrants’ economic, cultural and social contributions

  • Encouraging mutual understanding between migrant communities and wider society

  • Supporting narratives of responsible, structured and integrated migration

By presenting balanced, authentic and human-centred stories, 1001 Hopes contributes at a cultural level to the UK’s vision of a society where migration is managed, integration is supported, and shared values are reinforced.

A Meaningful Platform for Public Bodies and Civil Society

This project offers a valuable engagement opportunity for:

  • Local authorities and councils

  • Public institutions working in integration, culture and community cohesion

  • Foundations and associations serving migrant communities

  • International and diaspora-focused organisations

Supporting 1001 Hopes allows institutions to demonstrate a constructive, inclusive and socially responsible approach to migration — grounded not in abstraction, but in real lives and lived experience.

Documentary Craft, Not Messaging

1001 Hopes – Migration Stories adopts the language of contemporary documentary cinema:
observational, respectful and free from sensationalism.

The aim is not promotion or advocacy, but understanding, visibility and long-term cultural value.
Each film becomes part of a growing archive of stories that reflect modern Britain and speak to future generations.
